Scholarships for Professional Electrician Training
SMKN 3, the government technical college in Singaraja, provides a three-year training course for electricians. About five years ago, a private Swiss donor began to upgrade the electricity department with a grant of $500,000 under Yayasan Naga Loka; long-time Bali resident Charlotte Woerner is on their Board. This was used to improve teaching skills at a Swiss-built college in Malang which trains teachers of electricity/electronics, and to upgrade the labs and workshops, tools and equipment.
The upgraded course graduates 35 students a year, all of whom are well employed or seek higher education. This course is now one of the best in Indonesia.
